Oatmeal Play Dough

It was a cold and rainy day.  Our plans for the park were ruined.  I needed an activity fast. And it sort of flopped.

Recipe:
1 part flour
2 part oatmeal
1 part water

I must say I wasn't impressed.  It came together quickly enough, but it was either too stiff or too sticky.  The oatmeal caused it to be grainy, so maybe powderizing (its a word now) it in a blender or food processor would work better.  And I made the unfortunate mistake of letting my daughter put red food coloring in the water... all mixed together it looked like we were playing with raw ground beef.

After filling a bit of our time I stored it in a plastic bag.   The next day when we tried to play with it we had to throw it out because it smelled rotten.  Had I been thinking I would have put in the fridge, but even then it wouldn't keep for too much longer.

I remember the directions saying to let it air dry then paint it, but I didn't try since... well nothing my 18 month old daughter turned out really looked like it was meant to be anything but an experiment in mashing it through her fingers.
